First Time to actually Role PlayBefore you came here, you should have been to the "Begin to RP" section. That section will get you started and will allow you to move on to the next step, Learning to RP, Here! I have to tell you, whether you THINK You know the following or not, Read it anyway. Read everything you can see below, that way, you are positive about everything. Even the "elite" role players make mistakes, and I personally think they need to read this too, morons. |

Okay then, Part one to learn how to Role Play. Enter a Role Playing room. Say NOTHING when you are there, simply enter the room. Watch everything they do in the room and watch carefully. Read what they say, read how they say it, the context they say it in. Bascially, get used to reading. Reading is very important in Role Playing, because if you don't know what's going on around you, you wont know how to react. Part two! Talk to someone out of character, ask a question why they did something, or make a statement. Make sure that whatever you had said out of character is in (( Out of Character Bubbles )) Sometimes they are called ((Mun Bubbles)). Also, make sure whatever you said to them Out of Character was pertinent to what the room is about. Don't talk about swords to a guy in a Star Trek room. After your statement or question is made out of character, try to make it quick and not talk too much. Too much out of character gets annoying. But this is a quick excersize so you get used to using bubbles when Out of Character. For part three, keep watching, yeah, watch. Most of learning is watching others and learning from their pros and cons. Fourth, Observe the different way's to role play. There are a few different styles, but one main style. Just remember these few things to begin to Role Play: ::Actions go in here:: ((Out of Character goes here)) Speaking is normal "Or in quotes" *Thoughts go in here* Part Five is when we actually get somewhere. Just remember above! It seems simple to use bubbles when you are talking out of character, but it isn't... Anyway... Go into an RP room and watch them, just watch them.. And do this.. - 5.1 - See if the room is full of people, there should be about 6 people in it, if there are too many more or less, leave. - 5.2 - Watch the people in there, If they are talking Out of Character a lot, leave. If at least 2 people are actually Role Playing, then it is cool, stay. - 5.3 - Remember the title of the room. If your character is from space and has lazer guns, but you are in a King Arthur RP room, then just don't enter, you might as well leave or make a new character. - 5.4 - Decide whether you WANT to RP or not, sometimes you just want to watch, sometimes you want to do things. - 5.5 - Turn on your Log Manager. You do this by going to the above "File" button, scrolling down to "Log Manager" and clicking "Open Log." Find the folder that you have personally decided would be for your character alone, and name the Log whatever you want. Click the "Save" button and you are in business!.. Step Six.. You've come to the step where it is time to Role Play. Enter your Character... You might be asking how and why to that... Well, here is why and how... Firstly, you have to establish for the other RPers where in the land you are, and also, what you are doing. You are placing your charcter into the RP, you are placing your character into the setting, you have to give detail as to where. You have to also tell them WHAT you are placing there. Describe your character's general features in interaction with the place you are placing your character. Below are the basics of what to place in an entrance..: - 6.1 - Tell the general area you are in. - 6.2 - Tell your character's physical desciption. - 6.3 - Tell what your character is doing - 6.4 - Tell all of the surroundings that effect you, e.g. fog or dew on the grass. This is a very general entrance that a beginner might use to enter a setting. The setting here is Hyrule Field: ::A man is leaning against a lone tree in the middle of a vast field. His boots are dirty because of all the travel he has done recently, his pants are in the same condition. A light brown tunic is tucked neatly into his pants. An overcoat hangs unzipped around his shoulders, long sleeves extend only slightly beyond his wrists. A gust of wind blows the man's auburn hair out of his eyes. Those light brown orbs continue to search the field's horizons for anyone to come near him. Vast horizons make an enormous perfectly blue sky above him, only obstructed by the branches of that tree he leans against.:: This seems like a long description, but look at how simple it is. Once you learn how to write small and simple sentances, you can make many corresponding sentances that go together. This makes a paragraph that you never knew you could write. I'll quickly analyze what I typed...: - S1 - Where he is. - S2 - Starting from the bottom, I described his boots.... Then his pants - S3 - Going up, I Described his shirt. - S4 - Next up, His jacket covering the tunic. - S5 - Up to the top, I describe his hair interacting with some surrounding wind. - S6 - His orbs, or eyes, are described, along with what he is doing there, searching. - S7 - I described the general area, and reverted back to the first sentance, where he is. YOU ARE A VICTIM!!! Now that you've done an entrance, you are role playing. You are entered into the room, so you are a victim. Always think of yourself as a victim. You are a victim to the wind, if it blows, your hair gets messy. You are a victim to the rain. If one person says it rains first, before anyone else says it is a sunny day or snowing or whatever the setting is, then it is raining, and you are victim to it. If the current setting is the desert, you are victim to the desert, you cannot leave the desert unless you leave the room. And last but not least, you are victim to others. If a person steals something from you or attacks you or tries to assassinate you or kidnap you, you MUST play along. This doesn't mean you have to be killed or lose a precious item. But once you learn the rules, if someone does a "Theft" to you, and follows all the rules correctly when stealing, then you were just jacked. Don't whine about it like a baby, just carry on as if you didn't notice, because that is probably what would happen in real life. If you follow the rules, then there is no excuse for anyone else, they must follow the rules too. If they don't follow the rules, you are with the wrong crowd, period. Begin to role play! Remember the Rules of RP, and remember to follow them. Remember to do ::Actions:: ((Out of Character)) and **Thoughts** This concludes the learning to RP section. Everything after this is common sense on doing actions that simply interact with your surroundings and the people in them. |
